My first office job, at the age of eighteen, was as a legal assistant and within a few months I was a case manager for Chapter 7 and 13 bankruptcies. Even then, I was impressed with the importance of that work and I was determined to head to law school.
After completing my B.A. at University of Washington and graduating from Seattle University School of Law, I worked for Zillow Group’s in-house counsel appealing FOIA requests and reviewing contracts. While I enjoyed the “big law” experience, I missed working directly with members of the community and seeing the very real and positive impact on my clients’ lives. This drove me to return to a community-based law practice and co-found HLP Legal, PLLC.
